HP TouchSmart tm2 Laptop-Tablet Announced (CES 2010)

Ah, the mythical tablet… Amongst all of Apple’s islate rumourg and Microsoft’s Courier rumours, the world forgot about HP’s TouchSmart! Their new model, the tm2, has made an appearance at CES this year, and it’s looking rather impressive…
The new TouchSmart is a convertible tablet device, meaning that it’s a laptop when you want a laptop, and a touch screen tablet when you aren’t in the mood for a physical keyboard and mouse! It has a 12.1” screen with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor behind the scenes – it even has discrete graphics powered by ATI.
HP TouchSmart tm2 Laptop-Tablet Announced (CES 2010)Despite its pretty average 6-cell battery, HP claim that you’ll get 9 hours of battery life from this thing, although that’s surely an exaggeration when compared to real life use.

The major feature in this setup is of course the touch screen, which offers capacitive multitouch to users and can be used with either your finger or a stylus depending on your preference. Taking a leaf out of the Envy’s book (which took a leaf out of Apple’s book…), you’ll find an aluminium casing and buttonless trackpad to match.

HP’s TouchSmart tm2 is most definitely an improvement to the previous tx2, and if you’re wanting to get your hands on one, you’ve only got until January 17th to wait, where it’ll set you back a cool $949. Is it worth it, or are you holding out for another tablet we keep on hearing rumours about from a certain fruit company? Either way, the tm2 is definitely worth a look!
