You might think this is strange, that a company you’ve never even heard of can offer better prices than a chain of 100s of stores. The reason is simple, and online store don’t have the same expenses as a physical store. This means the can offer lower prices and better deals on products like laptop computers on sale. What computer should you buy?

This is actually rather hard for me to say, one of the reasons is simple, 14 days after this article has been written, the computers I’ve recommended here might be obsolete. Ask for help in a local computer store. Tell them you’re looking for laptop computers on sale and tell them what you are going to use it for. If you only need a simple laptop for surfing, checking mail and using office you can find a laptop computer for sale for less than 500$. But, if you want to be able to play games etc, you’re looking at 1000$ and up.

Where to look for laptop computers on sale

Since you are reading this, you’re probably already online, and that’s the best place to start looking for laptop computers on sale. First, visit the web pages of your local stores. Most of them probably have a website, and if they do, they usually list any special deals there. So, take a quick look, see if any has any ads saying laptop computers for sale etc. Next step is even easier, check your mail. Chances are there’s a bunch of ads there, one or more from stores selling laptop computers. Compare the offers to the one you’ve found online.

For this beautiful glass display that becomes completely transparent when the laptop is not in use, the touch-sensitive keyboard that becomes opaque when not in use, and it’s extremely thin shell, the Vaio Zoom Holographic Concept notebook deserves the first position in top 10 coolest laptop concepts of all times.

We think that this concept is showing us how future laptops would look like, while the designer wanted to create something that satisfies the requests of people for a perfect designed notebook.

Such a system would be extremely thin, the lightest, and would look exactly like in these pictures.

Top 10 Laptops for Web and Graphic Designers of 2008

We all have different preferences when it comes to laptops. Folks who travel a lot usually go for a small and light model – maybe even a tiny ultraportable like the Asus Eee PC. The problem with tiny laptops is that you can’t squeeze in a lot of performance in such a small frame. From a web designer’s perspective, they are nigh on impossible to work with because of the limited screen resolution.

To get a resolution of 1440×900, you need to step up to at least a 14-inch laptop, and above that, 15 inches or more. It’s usually worth the portability tradeoff however, if you want to work with the laptop comfortably for any longer periods. Of course, if you have gotten used to working with dual 22-inch high-resolution screens, no laptop will feel very comfortable by comparison, but the desktop replacement segment is possibly the best choice for web designers because of the larger screens and better ergonomics. But I digress, on to the Top List:

Acer Ferrari 5005

Acer is a company known primarily for its cheap, lower-end laptops, but the Ferrari series is a notable exception. This one is a 15.4-inch laptop with a very pleasing 1680×1050 resolution – comparable to a standard 22-inch desktop LCD. It also has a decent dedicated graphics card from ATI and a 2GHz AMD Turion processor. Unfortunately, AMD’s Turion CPU is not nearly as fast as Intel’s Core 2 Duo, and the Ferrari models are usually overpriced.

CES 2010: AMOLED Laptop with Transperant Screen

CES 2010 certainly has a great many products lined up which are totally cool. However, the event is also seeing a number of inane products which are completely packed with technology

but with a really bad theme. One such product is the new with a transparent AMOLED display. It comes from the group behind OLED display and has a resolution of just 960×540.

It is 38% transparent and I still don’t get the idea of having a transparent screen, unless you want to know what is happening just behind it. Human eyes have enough capacity to see what is happening behind the laptop screen without even having to bend behind the laptop. Read More

How To Find The Best Laptop Computer

The most delicate category of laptop users are the gamers. Gamers need expensive laptops with dual processors and dual graphics cards if possible. Alienware is a company owned by Dell that produces top of the line gaming laptops which are also very expensive. Other gaming laptops belong to Dell XPS series or the Toshiba Qosmio series. These laptops have short battery life because they are very heavy and they are not meant to be carried around. They are used as desktop replacement and since you mostly use them at home, just keep them connected to a power outlet and battery will not be a concern any more. Good gaming laptops have more than 2 speakers and in some cases there is even an integrated subwoofer to provide excellent sound quality without you needing to attach any external speakers. The usual length of the diagonal is 17 inches so you can see perfectly all the details of shooters like F.E.A.R. or Left 4 Dead. Â They have cool features like back lit keyboard and all kinds of LEDs spread around the entire unit to produce cool effects is the dark. These laptops are famous for their powerful and good looking design but they also are the most expensive king of laptop that money can buy. A good gaming laptop can be worth even $4500.

Top 10 Notebook Computers

If you are thinking of buying a mini laptop is best to know what and why to buy. So here it is the top 10 mini laptops guide.

Top 10 mini laptops:

#10 – Asus Eee PC 701:

If you are thinking of combining a small price with good qualities this is definitely a good choice for you. Asus Eee PC 701 is one of the smallest, cheapest and lightest mini laptops

#9 – Asus Eee PC S101:

If you are going for the looks when buying a mini laptop you seriously have to consider this model. It is as tin as 18-25mm and silky smooth curves tapered at one end make it appear even thinner.

#8 – Toshiba NB100:

Even if Toshiba has an impressive line of laptops, the Toshiba NB100 is not much of an innovation. Aesthetically it’s a bit of a mess, it has a robust design but the battery sticking out its back ruins pretty much everything, and regarding the performance there’s still nothing special about it

7# – LG X110:

The LG X110 is an attractive model, which has a wide keyboard to reduce errors and gives the user a much more enjoyable typing experience than other models. The LG X110 includes a 10” LED Backlit Hannstar display panel with clear and vibrant colors.

6# – Acer Aspire One:

The Acer Aspire One model features a 8.9” display panel with an 1024×600 px screen resolution, integrated microphone and webcam but it lacks the Bluetooth connectivity. The 3 cell standard battery it’s a bit of a letdown because of the 2-3 hours battery life, but the model can be purchase with an optional extra 6 cell battery which increase its lifetime to 4-6 hours.

5# – Asus Eee PC 901:

Easy to learn, easy to play, easy to work. Apparently the slogan seems to be true. The Asus Eee PC901 mini laptop is a great deal, giving you the possibility to use most of the task of a full size laptop with less the size and money.

4# – Asus Eee PC 1002:

The Asus Eee PC1002 is one of the best looking mini laptops that Asus released. This model has the same processor, RAM and storage capacity as the former Asus Eee PC1000H model but the design is significantly improved.

3# – Samsung NC10:

The Samsung NC10 is considered to be the best 10 inch mini laptop. It has a good battery lifetime, a 93% full size keyboard, a good storage space and a 10.2” display panel with a screen resolution of 1024×600 px.

#2 – HP Compaq Mini 1000:

If you are a writer this mini laptop is the best option for you because until now it has the biggest keyboard out there. Unfortunately the biggest disappointment in this mini laptop is the week 3 cell battery which provides you with a life time of only 2 – 2:30 hours.

#1 – Sony VAIO P Series:

The best mini-laptop on the market is Sony VAIO. it is less than 2cm thick, it is small sized, weights less than 640g, and it also comes with many features like 3G Mobile Broadband, inbuilt GPS, battery life of up to 8 hours and SSD storage of up to 128GB.

Netbooks: Extreme Value and Portability

Nowhere is the popularity of netbooks easier to spot than on Amazon.com. As of February 2009, viewing the top selling laptops on the online shopping giant’s website reveals that most of the five best selling laptops are netbook computers. Cost conscious computer shoppers have made netbooks an overwhelming success.

Perhaps you’re considering buying a netbook and would like to know more about them or maybe you’re curious as to why they have become such a major hit with consumers. The following is a brief overview of netbooks and a discussion of the factors that have led to their popularity.

A netbook is a newer kind of computer designed for maximum portability and ease of use. Netbooks are significantly smaller than traditional laptops and lack a conventional notebook’s speed and processing power. Netbooks typically run Windows XP Home or a version of Linux specifically tailored for the netbook.

Prices for netbook computers run from roughly $350 to about $500 at this time. Top selling netbooks presently include models from Acer, Asus, Samsung , Dell and HP. Most computer makers have, however, incorporated a netbook or a line of netbooks to their offerings in order to meet the swelling consumer demand.

While netbooks lack the computing power to run resource intensive applications directly on the netbook, WiFi

• watch windcroft in divx

capability is a signature feature. This makes it quite possible to stay connected via email, use Internet based software and perform most standard computing operations albeit using a smaller display screen and keyboard. Netbooks are no replacement, however, for desktops or even most traditional laptops.

The popularity of netbook computers stems from their portability and affordability. Computer users wanting an inexpensive laptop that traveled well and was capable of fulfilling their basic needs were a segment of the market that had traditionally been underserved. Netbooks resonate with the user who doesn’t need the latest bells and whistles or the fastest processor and doesn’t want to have to pay for such.

Computer components are constantly in a state of getting faster, more powerful and often smaller. As the technology continues to evolve, consumers may soon see netbooks evolve as well. Future netbook computers may come equipped with more power and more robust features. Presently, netbooks provide an alternative for laptop buyers looking to save money and have mobile access to several useful features.

As price and ease of use are key factors for consumers wanting to purchase a laptop, the appeal of the netbook computer is simple to understand. While netbooks offer less flexibility and computing power, they ably address the needs of a segment of the market that desires portability and basic functionality. When technology improves and netbooks evolve in stride, the distinction between laptop and netbook may become less clear.

Breaking News: Wal-Mart to Sell Linux Laptops at Below $400, and PCs For Less Than $300

Just don’t get too excited, because this is old news [circa 2004]. And something that is currently being rehashed as new on Digg, Slashdot, and Linux sites…

I’m sure you have seen it too: the news along the lines of “[insert random OEM here] releasing incredible Linux offers”, quickly followed by naive comments proclaiming the end of Microsoft.

The fact is, OEMs and companies like Wal-Mart have been attempting to sell Linux based PCs and Laptops/Notebooks for years. Take a look:

• Sept. 14, 1999 Is the IBM Thinkpad now Linux-friendly?
• Spring 2000 Dell Delivers Linux! [Archive.org]
• June 17, 2002 Wal-Mart trims prices of Linux-based PCs
• May 12, 2003 HP “people’s notebook” runs Linux
• July 22, 2004 Toshiba Windows media laptop plays with embedded Linux

Unfortunately, most of these attempts have resulted in complete failure or extremely small volume [Wal-Mart couldn't even sell 1000 of those Laptops]. And every few years, the waters are tested again, with the same exact outcome.

Lets face the truth: Linux does not work for the average consumer, it never has, as “choice” is not something that consumers are looking for. Familiarity, function, and eye candy are the determining factors here.

As “Linux” is not synonymous with “Wal-Mart”; it neither is with “Desktop.”

Remember that awesome Superman hanger from yesterday? Wouldn’t it be great to have a laptop in the same style? Now you can…well, sort of.

OLPC XO Laptop

The government of India has signed an agreement with the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) project and will purchase 250,000 of the organization's XO laptops. The machines will be distributed to students throughout the country. India's decision to embrace OLPC is a bit unexpected in light of the country's past antagonism towards the project.

OLPC is a nonprofit organization that builds low-cost education laptops to sell in bulk to governments of developing countries. The project, first unveiled in 2005, has faced many challenges and has been forced to significantly cut staff and reduce the scope of its vision. Despite these setbacks, the program is still marching on and continuing to sell units as it works on an updated model and an innovative next-generation version.

OLPC launched a pilot program in India in 2007 with 20 XO laptops at a school in Khairat-Dhangarwada village in the state of Maharashtra. Although the pilot program was successful, the country's Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) was highly skeptical about OLPC, and expressed concerns about the health implications of prolonged laptop use among students.

The MHRD later reversed its views about the health implications of youth computing and launched its own dubious program to build a competing $10 laptop. Unsurprisingly, the $10 laptop never materialized. When the country finally unveiled its highly ambiguous plans for its $10 "Sakshat" computing initiative earlier this year, it was revealed that the device would not be a laptop and would cost significantly more than $10 to produce.

India has finally decided to adopt OLPC after all, despite the government's previous skepticism and plans for building its own technology. PC World, which spoke with OLPC India CEO Satish Jha, reports that the laptops will be sent to 1,500 schools. Jha hopes to ship 3 million laptops in India this year. PC World also says that a small roll-out will be taking place in Sierra Leone, where a human rights group is paying to deploy 5,000 XO units.

OLPC recently announced a hardware bump and plans to drop AMD chips in favor of the VIA C7-M. The update will also boost system memory to 1GB and internal storage to 4GB. Prototype boards are expected to emerge in May. It's unclear if the order placed by India is for the current hardware or for the updated version. OLPC is also working on a more ambitious 2.0 model which is expected to land in 2010.

In total sales and deployed units, OLPC still lags behind Intel's competing Classmate PC initiative. India's purchase of 250,000 XO units will help OLPC recover some lost credibility. It demonstrates that major buyers still believe that the program is viable and that the laptops deliver reasonable value.
