Acer Aspire 8930, 6930, 5735 and 4730 Laptop Reviews

Acer released four new notebooks in its HD-media-centered Gemstone line today: the Acer Aspire 8930, Aspire 6930, Aspire 5735 and Aspire 4730 Laptops. We previously reviewed the Acer Aspire 8920 and came away impressed with its cool design, media playback capabilities, and gorgeous display.

The top-end Acer Aspire 8930 Laptops gets things going with a borderline ridiculous 18.4-inch HD CineCrystal display, a 2.53GHz Core 2 Duo T9400 CPU, 4GB of DDR3 RAM, NVIDIA’s GeForce 9700M GT, an optional (but completely necessary) Blu-ray drive, WiFi, 320GB 7,200RPM SATA drive and a starting price of just $1,699.99. The Acer Aspire 6930 Laptops sports a 16-inch WXGA LCD and a few less niceties, though the $699.99 is entirely more appealing. As for the consumer-friendly Acer Aspire 5735 Laptops, it boasts a Pentium T3200, 15.6-inch WXGA display, 2GB of RAM and a $549.99 sticker. Picking up the rear is the 14.1-inch Acer Aspire 4730 Laptops, which coincidentally starts at the same price point as the aforesaid Acer Aspire 5735 Laptops.

The Laptop Sony VAIO CR is a very capable laptop or notebook and we feel it will make a great companion for a wide range of individuals, especially many college students who are looking for a hip but functional mobile machine.

Nokia may enter laptop industry, CEO says

Nokia, the world’s leading mobile phone manufactuer, is considering entering the laptop business, CEO Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo said in an interview to Finnish national broadcaster YLE today.

“We are looking very actively also at this opportunity,” Kallasvuo said, when asked whether Nokia plans to make laptops.

Kallasvuo also said he believes Nokia can win more market share in the current downturn, but said the firm needs to cut more costs.

Ben Heckendorn's Xbox 360 laptop: best mod ever?

Every so often a mod comes along that's so intricate, so amazing, so over the top, that words simply don't do it justice (but we'll try anyway). Ben Heckendorn's Xbox 360 laptop is one such mod. Having garnered no small amount of fame from previous portable projects like the nPod, PPS2, and N64p, Ben was commissioned by a generous benefactor to somehow make a 360 "good to go" a la the Crunchwrap Supreme -- and since this is the great Mr. Heckendorn we're talking about, slapping a hinged LCD onto an out-of-the-box console simply wouldn't do. Instead, Ben spent three months designing and building the so-called Xbox 360p, machining a custom aluminum laptop enclosure by hand into which he stuffed a keyboard, 1,280 x 720 Westinghouse LCD, and get this -- even a custom-built water cooling system to replace the 360's stock, bulky heat sinks. The end result is a polished, professional looking (albeit heavy -- this machine weighs in at about 14 pounds) laptop complete with WiFi, USB ports, obligatory glowing green ring, and converged power supply so that the monitor and gaming system only require a single cable snaking out the back. Well done, Ben, well done; but as you yourself note, there's no such thing as resting on one's laurels, so we can't wait to see what you have in store for the PS3 and, most especially, the swing-your-arms-like-a-maniac Nintendo Wii. Best Laptop for College - Sony VAIO N laptop

I've found the best laptop for college, as of June 2007, while working on the cheapest laptop comparison chart. The chart shows that Sony VAIO N Series laptop in its basic configuration offers the best value for the money today. Sony VAIO N is only the lowest-end Sony laptop but it comes with some of the most advanced CPU Processor and features available today.
Priced at $899 (VGN-N320E/W) and equipped with Intel Pentium Dual Core 1.6 GHz processor, all necessary ports and, in addition, with the ExpressCard that enables laptop to connect to even more external devices, Sony N series is the best laptop for college today for the lowest price. Sure you can buy cheaper Dell or Compaq for around $499 with an instant rebate today ... but these lowest-end models are not nearly equipped with the features and performance. College students often find themselves in the environment where they have to use many different connectivity options and be able to work fast while having multiple applications running simultaneiously. The best laptop should also be designed from a sturdy material to take any college abuse and should last through at least 4 years without repairs - repairing or exchanging your laptop while away from home on campus is often a tough task. Sony brand fits perfectly to all these requirements, Sony Vaio N fits well for a college student budget. And it's good looking too ;). See all specs or buy it at Sony.
